Andrea England Releases 'Lemonade' Debut CD and Single, Following Songwriting Successes in Canada and the United States

April 30, 2004

Toronto based songwriter Andrea England will release her debut album, Lemonade, on May 18, through MapleNationWide and Universal Music Canada. The album's opening cut, "Be," was sent to Canadian radio stations last week.

The release of Lemonade follows a year packed with major career events for the Nova Scotia born singer, who now lives in Toronto.

A former winner of the John Lennon International Songwriting Competition, she took part in a major songwriting workshop with 15 other experienced writers in Toronto, and was the only Canadian invited by ASCAP to take part in a similar event in Los Angeles. In the middle of the 10-day Los Angeles gathering, she flew to St. John's, Newfoundland, to showcase on the "Rising Star" stage at the East Coast Music Awards. (The previous year she took part in the event's Songwriters' Circle.)

Lemonade is a bright, organic, joyful pop record with heart and roots, as well as catchy tunes with unforgettable hooks. The title track, which she wrote more than two years ago, was released to East Coast radio stations last summer - and England, who is unafraid to take her business career in her own hands, won sponsorship support for the release from Mike's Hard Lemonade.

The same sense of energy that has marked her career so far is emphasized by the fact that she has lined up two other corporate fans - MAC Cosmetics and Guess; both companies, spotting her talent early in the game, are on board for the new release.

Lemonade was produced by England and veteran Northern Pikes leader Bryan Potvin, and the supporting players include keyboardist Richard Bell, who formerly worked with Janis Joplin and The Band, Creighton Doane on drums, and Drew Birston, a member of Chantal Kreviazuk's band, on bass. Potvin provided acoustic and electric guitar parts, while England played piano and additional guitar.

England plans to tour behind the new release - and some East Coast dates have already been set. No stranger to live performance (she's worked with such artists as Jorane, Jacksoul, Ashley MacIsaac, Martha Wainwright, Damhnait Doyle, and Tara MacLean) she's looking forward to taking Lemonade on the road.
